Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Applications - Case Study

Diversified Information Technologies

In 2006, Diversified Information Technologies (Diversified) acquired a facility in Orange County Virginia.  This building in Gordonsville has over 224,000 sq. ft. of combined warehouse and office space on 152 acres of potential expansion area.  The intent was to leverage this facility to offer disaster recovery services to existing Fortune 100 clients as well as offer its services to business in the Washington D.C. and Richmond VA metropolitan areas.  Initially, both Verizon and Level 3 (formerly Telcove) agreed to ‘wire’ the facility with the necessary broadband connectivity needed to offer their services.  However, when the time came to formalize a contract both telecommunication companies withdrew their agreement, citing that Gordonsville was too remote and that there wouldn’t be enough guaranteed demand for the broadband service they would be installing beyond Diversified’s use.  As a result, Diversified was forced to relocate their services and new employees.
